STUARTS DRAFT – In a battle of the Cougars, Alleghany prevailed victorious on the road Tuesday evening in Stuarts Draft winning 64-55 in a non-district varsity boys basketball contest.

From the opening tip the AHS Cougars had full control of the game and jump-started to a 23-8 first quarter lead as they were backed by a well-balanced scoring effort from seven different players including Chase DePriest, who finished with a double-double, a game-high 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Despite falling behind early on, the SD Cougars put together a strong second quarter backed by their leading scorer Derrick Moore, who scored a team-high 21 points.

It would be all for nought as Alleghany hung close with Stuarts Draft in the second quarter as the AHS Cougars kept a double-digit margin at halftime 39-26.

The slow start from the first quarter would come back to haunt Stuarts Draft as they outscored Alleghany 47-41 in quarters 2-4.

The loss for Stuarts Draft was their third straight following a 2-0 start to their season.

These two schools will meet regularly following the season when Alleghany joins Stuarts Draft in the Shenandoah District.
