Santa Claus is Comin’ To Town… and He’s Bringing 2 New Businesses with Him!

As the holidays slowly creep up on the good people of Alleghany County, children prepare their letters to the Little Saint Nick and Rudolph gears up to take flight next month on Christmas Eve, there has been quite a bit of happenings in Olde Downtown Covington.

To start, the Shadow has noticed much going on in the old Gordman’s building on Main Street. Suddenly, a large trash receptacle was outside the front door and workers were tossing items in that they retrieved from inside the long-empty building. I was able to speak to one of them who chose to keep his lips sealed on the mysterious project.

Then I learned of a gentleman with big plans for the building’s renovation. While his ideas were plenty, the Shadow was unable to nail down anything concrete for the future of the old Gordman’s building. All I can definitively say at this point is that the gentleman is certain his final plans will bring good things to the community as a whole.

Meanwhile, diagonally across the street from the old Gordman’s building is the old Cato’s building and it, too, seems to be creating something of a stir in Olde Town Covington. The Shadow has noticed contractors coming and going from the building, though I have been unable at this point to speak to any of them. Rumors meanwhile are circulating among business owners near the building with talks of a new restaurant or dance hall potentially moving into the currently vacant building.

While the Shadow is unsure of what could be coming, I find it ironic that these businesses are springing up around the holidays during a time when jolly old Saint Nicholas is preparing his sleigh. Why, you ask? Because when Santa Claus comes to town, he usually brings toys for children. This year, it seems, he is bringing new business to Olde Town Covington. The Shadow approves
