LOW MOOR – While the Alleghany High School (Mountaineers) are the defending Class 2 girls cross country state champions, the AHS Cougars will look to set their mark in the history books.
It’s easy to say Alleghany head coach Jeremy Bartley and his staff have been nothing short of phenomenal in building a winning culture with the Mountaineers program.
Bartley, a two-time state champion coach, now leads the new AHS Cougars to newer heights and will have a several pieces back from last year’s state championship team including now sophomore, Kiera Lowman.
Lowman capped off her amazing freshman run by not only helping guide the Mountaineer program to a state team title, but as well as an individual state championship when she crossed the finish line at 18:59, eight seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Lowman was also the Class 2, Regional Champion.
Meanwhile, Macyn Cash who was a big part of the star championship team, had also earned All-State honors along with Lowman last year, will be key returner as well for the Cougars. Cash finished 10th individually at states with a time of 21:03.
