COVINGTON – It was quite the week for the Covington Lumberjacks organization as they had a clean sweep of the Valley Baseball League (VBL) weekly awards during Week 4 of the season.
Covington’s Logan Braunschweig was named the VBL hitter of the week. The UAB Blazer had a slashing stat line where he batted .500 during the week as he went 11-for-22 at the plate and drove in six RBI’s. Braunswchweig also was a menace on the bases for opposing catchers as he had seven steals.
Meanwhile, Lumberjacks right-handed pitcher Grant Adams was named the Week 4 pitcher of the week. Adams, a member of the Georgia Southwestern State baseball team, was essentially untouchable in his 11 innings on the mound. Adams in 11 innings had a 0.00 ERA, where he recorded two wins, while striking out 10, and only walked three batters.
The Lumberjacks were the first team this season to sweep the VBL weekly awards in hitting and pitching. Gregory Melo was the first Lumberjack named hitter of the week during the Week 2 of the season.
