With summer creeping fast, Josie Denius, camp coordinator for Camp Accovac, is still accepting applications for the upcoming junior and teen weeks. The Christ-centered camp —which is also preparing for its 75th-anniversary celebration in August— is working hard to get ready for this season’s campers later this month.

June 18th -24th is scheduled for junior session one, while June 25th-July 1st is junior session 2. Both are available for children between ages 7-12. Campers can expect Bible learning, friendly team competitions, arts and crafts, music, swimming, hiking, and so much more!

Immediately following junior session 2, teen camp opens for campers aged 12-18. Week one —sports, music, and drama— runs from July 2nd-8th, while week two —work and wilderness— runs from July 9th-15th. Week five then ushers in the new teen adventure camp from July 15th-21st for teens 15-19.

Teen sports, music, and drama offer similar activities as the junior weeks. However, it carries an added incentive in that it allows athletes to work with staff members to help improve their game. Meanwhile, campers with a passion for music and/or drama have a chance to exercise their skills through practice and performance.

Work and wilderness is all about helping teenagers learn the value of hard work and selflessness by giving back to their camp and community. Through the sweat of their brows, they work to improve the lives of others while enjoying the beauty of God-given surroundings.

Finally, teen adventure camp, which is relatively new, as it just made its debut last year, caps off the season. Josie Denius gave an idea of what to expect by describing what campers did last year. “They’d go kayaking and hiking and camping out. They hiked up to Pete’s Cave and they took their hammocks and spent the night up there in their hammocks and fixed breakfast and hiked back the next day.” She went on to describe this year’s theme for all campers: “The Bible, God’s Word.”

The total cost of camp per child each week is $275, with a $25 non-refundable deposit due with their registration forms. The remaining $225 can be paid upon arrival. Forms can be picked up at the camp directly or printed out from their website at www.campaccovac.com and mailed to Josie Denius at 4791 Nicelytown Rd., Clifton Forge, VA 24422. Camp Accovac does offer scholarships to children whose parents are unable to pay/can’t afford the entire amount and is always accepting donations from those who can. All donations can be sent to Denius at the aforementioned address.

Campers should arrive on the Sunday beginning of their camp week between 2 p.m.-4:30 p.m. and depart Saturday morning at 10 a.m. For additional information, contact Denius at 540-862-4904.
