COVINGTON, VA – In his first year ever playing soccer, junior-defensive standout Dylan Pommert is having quite the season for the Covington Cougars.

On Monday, in the consolation game of the Pioneer District tournament, Pommert scored his first two goals of his career to lead Covington to a 5-1 victory over the Narrows Green Wave.

Pommert, who is a defensive nightmare for opponents leads Covington with over 100 steals on the season, added 12 more in the Cougars consolation win. He also had one assist.

Covington scored three unanswered goals in the second half after leading 2-1 at intermission. Nicholas Lugar, Elvis Ramirez, and Jesus Reyes each had a goal for the Cougars. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Benjamin Moss had 13 saves on the nets.

The lone goal for Narrows was delivered by Carissa Kohel.

It’s now onto the Class 1, Region C tournament quarterfinals for Covington as they play on Thursday at Giles.
