COVINGTON, VA – In their final regular season match of 2023, the Covington Cougars boys’ soccer team prevailed victorious in a 6-1 Pioneer District defeat of the Craig County Rockets 6-1 at the Jackson River Sports Complex (JRSC).

Jesus Reyes once again was a force on the field as he delivered a hat-trick performance with his three goals. Meanwhile Elivs Ramirez added multiple goals, and Oscar Perez had one for the winners.

The defensive one-two punch of Dylan Pommert and Dean Anderson stifled the Rockets offense and collected 28 steals between the two. Pommert finished the game with 16 steals, while Anderson had 12. Meanwhile goalkeeper Nicholas Lugar had a four-save performance on the nets.

The Cougars swept its season series with the Rockets as they defeated them back on April 20th 5-1. As the regular season concluded for the Cougars, the team ended its regular season winning two straight to push their record to 5-9 overall and 4-4 in district play.

The Cougars will be the three seed in Thursday’s district tournament and meet the two seed Bath County Chargers. In their two matches this season, the Chargers were 2-0 against the Cougars, winning 4-1 at home and 8-0 most recently on May 5th at the JRSC.

GOALS – CHS: Reyes 3, Ramirez 2, and Perez
