LEXINGTON, VA – The Alleghany Lady Mountaineers (2-1) jumped out on the scoreboard early on the Rockbridge Lady Wildcats which helped prevail them to their second win of the season following a 7-4 victory on Wednesday evening.

The Lady Mountaineers were backed on offense by Abbie Fridley (2-for-4) and Kaylee Nicely (2-for-4) as each put together a two-hit two-RBI performance.

Kendell Keene (W/2-for-4) was the winning pitcher of the game for the Lady Mountaineers as she also collected two hits. Keene went the distance pitching seven innings where she gave up four runs (one earned) on seven hits, while walking six, and striking out eight.

Kelsey Nicely (0-for-4) and Kinsey Middleton (1-for-3) each had an RBI as well for the team.

Page Wright (1-for-3) led the Lady Wildcats with two RBIs, while Kaydence Wilson (3-for-4) and Kelsie Caldwell (2-for-4) each had an RBI. Wilson led all batters with a three-hit day. Much like Keene, Sadie Moore (L/0-for-2) went the distance for her team. Moore gave up seven runs (three earned) on 10 hits and struck out three.

After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Mountaineers jumped on the scoreboard in the second on a RBI double from Kay. Nicely. Emma Skidmore would courtesy run for Kay. Nicely, and would come around to score on a one-out RBI double from Middleton. The Lady Mountaineers would add another run in the inning as Middleton came around to score from the result of a Lady Wildcats fielding error.

Already ahead by three runs, Fridley put the Lady Mountaineers up four runs following an RBI single in the third.

The Lady Mountaineers would add two more runs in the top of the fifth inning on RBI’s from Kel. Nicely and Fridley.

Trailing by six runs, the Lady Wildcats were running out of outs. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the team would cut into the deficit by putting together a three-run inning. Wright hit a one-out two-run triple and Caldwell had an RBI double. Kailin Rice (0-for-2) would end the Lady Wildcats rally by throwing out Caldwell at third base as she tried to steal the bag.

The Lady Mountaineers would get a run back in the top half of the seventh inning on a single from Kay. Nicely which scored Fridley who had previously reached on an error.

In the home half of the inning Wilson would hit a two-out infield single that scored Parker Dameron (1-for-3). Needing another baserunner to provide the potential tying run at the plate, Keene would strikeout Isabella Dorey (0-for-1) looking to end the game.

The Lady Mountaineers will continue with their three-game road trip on Friday when they face their crosstown rival, the Covington Lady Cougars at the Jackson River Sports Complex.
