Two female AHS swimmers completed in the VHSL Class 1 & 2 State Swimming Championship.

Alivia Hoover and Charlotte Smith both started swimming with the YMCA Dolphin swim team at age 6 and have swum for AHS for four years, with their eighth-grade years being exhibition (they lost their sophomore season due to COVID-19). Both girls placed in regions to qualify them to swim at states. Hoover also qualified individually in three events prior to regions. Hoover has been the swim team captain for 2 years.

Some of the girls’ accomplishments over the years are listed below:

VHSL Region 2C

Championship

Hoover placed 2nd in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:09.54 and 3rd in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:06.34

Smith placed 2nd in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 27.56 and 3rd in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 1:02.05

This placement qualified them for states. Alivia also qualified individually in previous swim meets for the 200Free, 100 Back & 100 Butterfly.

VHSL Class 1/2 State Championship

Preliminary

Hoover placed 3rd in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:10.49 and 6th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:07.42 –> qualifying for finals.

Smith placed 13th in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 28.04 and 14th in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 1:02.79 –> qualifying for the consolation final.

Finals

Hoover placed 3rd in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:10.41 and 6th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:07.64 (both all state finishes).

Charlotte did not swim in the consolation final due to having another engagement.

Additionally, Hoover has had 22 VHSL placing finishes and/or medals between swim, cross country and track (and this is with losing a season of track and swim due to COVID-19).
