The Alleghany Lady Mountaineers (13-7, 5-5) celebrated seniors Kendell Keene and Zamera Hayslett last Thursday evening on senior night.

The two seniors playing their last regular season home game, were sent out with a victory following a 56-41 win over the James River Lady Knights.

The Lady Mountaineers were led by junior guard Macyn Cash who recorded a game and season-high 25 points. Cash at one point in the second quarter scored seven straight points.

In the loss Caitlin Canada led the Lady Knights in scoring with a team-high 24 points.

The two teams were locked in a back forth first quarter where the game would be tied at 8-8 heading into the second period.

The Lady Mountaineers did fall behind early in the first quarter 8-4. Bryce Leitch would score four straight points, including a game-tying three-pointer near the end of the quarter.

As the Lady Mountaineers built a 19-13 lead in the second quarter, the Lady Knights would not go away as they scored five straight points to cut the lead down to just one point.

With the first half winding down, Keene would knock down a three-pointer to put the Lady Mountaineers ahead 22-18 at halftime.

The third quarter and a key timeout would prove to be the difference maker.

The Lady Knights opened the second half scoring six straight points to take a 24-22 lead. This led to Lady Mountaineers Coach Jeff Wolfe calling a timeout.

Following the timeout, the Lady Mountaineers would go on a 15-2 scoring run to take a 37-26 lead. Cash during that stretch provided 10 of the 15 points, including two three-pointers.

After Keira Crawford knocked down a three-pointer to cut the deficit down to single digits for the Lady Knights, the Lady Mountaineers would get a three-pointer right back from Keene. Kelsey Nicely would then follow with back to back made baskets to push the lead up to 13 points at 44-31.

The win over the Lady Knights swept the season series for the Lady Mountaineers. The Lady Mountaineers won on the road back January 16th, 53-47.

The Lady Mountaineers regular season concludes on Friday evening when the team visits the Auburn Lady Eagles.

Lady Mountaineers scoring: Cash 25, Keene 8, Leitch 8, Nicely 8, Hayslett 4, Fridley 3
