Susie Plasters has announced that the American Red Cross’ Blood Drive will be held at First Christian Church in Covington on Tues., Jan. 10, from noon till 6:00 p.m.
Plasters has been recognized by the American Red Cross for her decades of volunteerism in organizing and spearheading successful blood drives in the Alleghany Highlands.
“The first one we ever had near Christmas was last month, and we met and exceeded our expectations (25 units were collected, five more than the goal),” Plasters remembered.
She continued, “We will serve free pizza to anyone who gives blood at the one we are holding on Jan. 10 at First Christian Church’s Fellowship Hall and Family Life Center.”
The Good News Church on Main hosted the blood drive in Dec. of 2022, and Chad Stancil, a member of the church, is assisting Plasters with the blood drive set for Jan. 10.
Plasters recalled, “By exceeding our goal of collecting 20 units of good blood, the American Red Cross provided us with a $250 Amazon card that we donated to the church.”
First Christian Church is located at 231 E. Fudge St., and those who wish to donate blood may expedite the process by visiting RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass to complete the pre-donation reading and health history questions that otherwise must be completed on the day of donating blood.
