Covington, Va. (VR) – Alleghany Highlands Community Services (AHCS) was honored to receive a visit from Commissioner Nelson Smith of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) on Tuesday, September 28, 2022.
During the visit the Commissioner met with Executive Director, Ingrid W. Barber, members of her Leadership Team, employees, and clients.
He discussed his “North Star” strategic plan; which will focus on strengthening the workforce, expanding the comprehensive continuum of care, and modernizing systems and processes.
He also listened to the Leadership Team discuss the priorities of AHCS. The Commissioner visited New Beginnings; a nine-bed transitional housing program for those coming out of the state hospital, Merryfield Residence; a Medicaid certified nine bed intermediate care facility for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and the newly opened Behavioral Health and Wellness Annex that houses youth and family services, prevention, and veteran services.
Mrs. Barber communicated during his visit that “AHCS is continuously evaluating our workforce and looking for solutions to meet our client’s needs, while maintaining the highest quality care for our clients in the Alleghany Highlands.”
