The Bath County Chargers (2-1) ended their three-game homestand to open up the season on Friday night with a 50-6 route of the Mountain View Generals (0-1).
Wyatt Campbell put together quite the performance for the Chargers with four total touchdowns. Campbell threw for two touchdowns and rushed for two as well. In the passing game Campbell finished 6-for-10 with 131 yards including touchdown passes of 47 yards and 35 yard. Campbell had an additional 58 yards on the ground.
The Chargers finished with six different players getting in the end zone in the win; Campbell, Turner, Hunter Waldeck, Bransen Gordon, Kamoy Stone, and Ethan Bryant.
Turner finished the game 6-for-7 in extra point attempts, while also having a touchdown, and an interception on the defensive side of the ball.
Also on the defensive side of the ball, Braiden Mabe had a forced fumble, while Jaden Ryder recovered the fumble.
For the Generals, the team had a rough night with committing several turnovers, including a safety. However, for the Generals it was their first game of the season.
Caleb Eaton provided the Generals with their only touchdown of the game coming on a two yard rushing touchdown. The team did have two blocked kicks in the game (field goal and extra point).
Last years matchup between the two schools was canceled when the Generals canceled their season.
Friday’s game was a game early on. After the first quarter the score was 7-6.
Campbell put the first points of the game on the scoreboard with a quarterback keeper from one yard out. Following a made extra point from Turner, the Chargers were ahead 7-0.
As the first quarter was winding down, with just over a minute remaining, Eaton put the Generals on the scoreboard with a two yard rushing touchdown. However, the Generals extra point was blocked which kept the Chargers ahead 7-6.
That would be the last and only time the Generals got on the scoreboard as the team was outscored 43-0 from the second quarter on, including a four touchdown second quarter for the Chargers.
With less than a minute coming off the game clock into the second quarter, Waldeck found the end zone from five yards out. Turner would make his extra point as he put the Chargers ahead 14-6.
A little over three minutes later after the Generals failed to convert a fourth-and-two from their own 47 yard line, Campbell threw the ball down the field and connected with Stone for a 47 yard touchdown. Turner’s made extra point put the Chargers ahead 21-6.
With a third of the second quarter remaining, the Chargers drove down the field to set up Campbell’s second rushing touchdown of the game from two yards out. Turner would knock in his fourth made extra point of the game to put the team ahead 28-6.
Leading by double digits already, the Chargers offense would get the ball back with just over two minutes left in the first half thanks to Turner’s interception which was returned 50 yards from the Generals 22 yard line to the Chargers 28 yard line. A facemask on the Generals moved the ball closer for the Chargers.
With 17 seconds left in the quarter, the Chargers faced a fourth-and-eight from the 15 yard line. Electing to go for the field goal attempt, Turner’s kick hit the left goal post. However, the Generals jumped offside and gave the Chargers a second chance. With the ball now at the 10 yard line and a 25 yard field goal attempt coming, the Generals blocked Turner’s field goal. On the block, Turner recovered the ball on the 18 yard line and ran the ball to the left side of the field and into the end zone for the touchdown. With an exciting crowd back the home team, Turner would make his extra point attempt to put the Chargers ahead 35-6.
Nearly halfway into the third quarter, the Chargers already ahead by 29 points added more points to the scoreboard as their lead grew larger following Campbell’s second touchdown pass of the game as he connected with Gordon from 35 yards out. The Generals would block Turner’s extra point to keep the game a 41-6.
On the Generals ensuing next drive on offense, the team faced a fourth and 13 on their on 17 yard line elected to punt the ball. The snap went over the punters head and into the end zone for a safety, which put the Chargers ahead 43-6 with just over three minutes left in the third quarter.
Just minutes into the fourth quarter, Bryant, rushed from nine yards out for the games final scoring drive. Turner’s made extra point put the Chargers ahead 50-6.
The Chargers already at two wins this season equals what the teams win total from their previous two seasons.
The Chargers will be on their bye week next week. Following the teams bye week, they will be on the road for the first time this season as they travel to Swoope to face the Buffalo Gap Bison.
