Marguerite Golden Boone Bunch, who became a resident of the Woodlands Health & Rehab Center in 2011, celebrated her 100th birthday there with her family on Sat., Aug. 6.

John Boone, her only living son who is a retired Virginia State Police trooper, was by her side along with Carol Grady and Milly Keyser, her two sisters; and many of her other relatives.

Born on Aug. 6, 1922, Marguerite graduated from Central High School in Low Moor in 1940. She played on the girls’ basketball team and married the same year she graduated.

She married Edwin Boone, and the couple resided in Covington. They remained married for 37 years till Edwin passed away in 1977. He had retired after 31 years as an employee of the West Virginia Pulp & Paper Company in Covington, currently operating as WestRock.

Marguerite and Edwin lived on York Street in Covington till his death, and in 1988 she became a resident of Scott Hill Retirement Community in Clifton Forge, remaining there until she moved to the Woodlands Heath & Rehab Center.

John stated, “She always had a positive outlook on life and served as a great influence on her family.”

John’s brother, Danny Boone, who lived in Covington; and his sister, Linda Andrews, who resided in Calabash, N.C.; are both deceased. Linda had been married to Kelly Andrews, a special agent for the Virginia State Police, and Robin Andrews, their daughter, who has retired, served as a supervisory agent for the FBI out of Tucson, Ariz.

Marguerite has two step-grandchildren, Theresa Snead, who resides in Clifton Forge; and Jeff Conner, who lives in Roanoke.

Her step-greatgrandchildren are Brittany Snead, Brook Snead and Bryar Snead. All three live in Clifton Forge. Evie Conner, another step-great-granddaughter; resides in Roanoke.

In addition to her step-great-grandchildren, she has five grandchildren as follows: Robin Andrews, Middleton, Wis.; Glenda Edwards, Houston, Texas; Mark Andrews, Hampstead, N.C.; Tracy Boone, Roanoke; and Johnny Boone, Covington.

Her six great-grandchildren are Ashley Edwards, Washington D.C.; Sarah Corbett, Houston, Texas; Grant Andrews, Hampstead, N.C.; Tyler Andrews, Hampstead, N.C.; Joshua Boone, Roanoke; and Noah Boone, Roanoke.

She also has three great-greatgrandchildren. They are Holly Mai Boone, England; Arthur Corbett, Houston, Texas; and Grace Andrews, Hampstead, N.C.

Surrounded by relatives who were in a festive mood, Marguerite watched Arthur Corbett, her great-great-grandchild, crawl on all fours as relatives and well-wishers snapped photographs and looked at family photographs that were displayed on tables.

After posing with his mother for photographs, John concluded, “Mother has always followed the Golden Rule by treating everyone like she wants to be treated.”
