LOW MOOR, Va. (VR) — The Alleghany Highlands YMCA, in conjunction with Mountain Gateway Community College, will host a youth basketball camp in August.
The camp will be headed by new Mountain Gateway Coach Ben Kluzak and will be conducted in two sessions the weekend of August 20-21 at the YMCA. On Saturday, Aug. 20, the camp will be held for grades K-5 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., while on Sunday, Aug. 21, the camp will be held for grades 6-8, also from 2-4 p.m.
The cost of the camp is $35 for YMCA members and $40 for non-members. Coach Kluzak said campers can expect to have some fun and learn the fundamentals of basketball. He will be assisted by some of his players, and free T-shirts will be given to all who register for the camp.
“I’m just really happy to get my feet wet,” Coach Kluzak said. “I’m trying to build relationships with the parents and kids, and I’m just trying to establish myself in the community.”
Originally from Chicago, Kluzak is a graduate of Rock Valley College in Rockford, Ill. His last coaching assignment was at NCAA D-III Northland College in Ashland, Wisc. Coach Kluzak said he has enjoyed his brief time here adjusting to life in the Alleghany Highlands.
“I’m very blessed,” he said. “It’s absolutely beautiful here.”
