WestRock Rescue Squad partook in this year’s 2022 Rescue Challenge held in or around Richmond Virginia. This is a skills evaluation/training challenge open by invitation only to elite Technical Rescue companies from around the country. Most of the teams participating come to this event average in size somewhere around 25-30 members, WestRock/Covington sent 15 members. Agencies this year came from the east coast ranging from Maryland, Ohio, New Jersey, and Virginia. Plus, teams from the US Army and United States Marine Corps took part. Each of the teams tackle 8 of 12 different but similar scenarios over 4 days (2 per day) and are evaluated and critiqued by some of the best instructors on the east coast. These “challenges” are problems designed to take around 3 hours. This is NOT a competition, but rather a training exercise to be shared amongst each other, to learn and grow. Additionally, WestRock Rescue Squad is preparing to defend their ALS State Championship won last year at the State Fire & EMS Convention in Hampton in August.
