The Covington Lumberjacks (3-5) had not played since dropping their straight game following their road loss to the Staunton Braves on Saturday night.
The team was rained out on Sunday and had a scheduled off day on Monday.
The Lumberjacks were back on the diamond on Tuesday for a home doubleheader against the Waynesboro Generals, who kept the Lumberjacks in the loss column by sweeping the doubleheader and extending the teams losing streak to five games.
Between the two games, the Generals pitching set the tone for the doubleheader as the Generals pitching held the Lumberjacks to just three runs on six hits between the two games. While the Generals hit the ball well as they outscored the Lumberjacks 19-3 across both games.
In game one, a four run inning highlighted by a Thad Ector (2-for-4) three-run home run was all the difference the Generals needed as the team cruised to a 7-1 victory.
In game two, more of the same with big scoring innings as the Generals scored four in the second and five in the sixth which ended after just seven innings. The Generals went on to win 12-2.
Cooper George (1-for-4) continued to hit the ball well. He only played in game one where he had provided the teams only RBI of the game. George did not appear in game two, ending his streak of seven straight appearances.
Michael Piulats (1-for-3), provided the Lumberjacks with a solo home run in the second game. It was his second home run of the season.
The Lumberjacks were off on Wednesday night, but are back on the diamond tonight as the team looks to get one back on the road against the Generals. The Lumberjacks are on the road tomorrow against the Braves at Gypsy Hill Park at 7:00 p.m.
