The Alleghany Mountaineers outdoor boys and girls track team competed at the Region 2C Championships last Thursday.
The Mounties boys team finished tied in 10th place in points with Chatham, while the girls finished seventh.
The Glenvar Highlanders finished first in both boys and girls in points with 124 total points in boys and 164 points for the girls.
Gabe Miller, ran two top-10 finishes. In the 800 meter dash, Miller placed ninth with a time of 2:15.98, while in the 1600, he finished fourth overall with a time of 4:47.33
Meanwhile, Macyn Cash, placed second in the girls 1600 meter run. Cash went finished second to one of Virginia’s top female runners in Carly Wilkes of Glenvar, who won multiple events at regionals. Cash was only 36 seconds behind her. Cash also competed in the 800 meter run where she placed fifth with a time of 2:34.47.
In the girls 3200 meter run, Gracie Barron nearly defeated Floyd County’s Zoe Beishan. Barron placed second with a time of 13:01.17. Barron also finished eighth in the 1600 meter run.
“I’m very proud of them for running hard against tough competition and moving on. We have high hopes at states and will do our best”, said Mounties head coach, Jeremy Bartley.
The state tournament finals will be held starting Friday and goes into Saturday. The state tournament will be held in Harrisonburg at James Madison University.
The Mounties will have three competing in the finals on Saturday. Miller and Cash will be competing in the 1600, while Miller and Barron are competing in the 3200.
