In front of a packed house at James River High School Friday evening, the James River Knights (14-3) boys varsity basketball team snapped the Alleghany Mountaineers (13-4) winning streak following a 60-28 victory.

Led by Patrick Clevenger’s double-double, game-high’s of 17 points and 12 rebounds, the Knights were able to rout the Mountaineers.

The Knights finished with three players in double figures scoring. Along with Clevenger, Corey (13) and Jayson Easton (11), both former Mountaineers, scored a combined 24 points against their former team and teammates.

The Mountaineers were led by Chris Harden, who scored a team-high six points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Anthony Webb, chipped in with five points.

The Knights jumped out quickly in the game to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter. The Mountaineers finally found points on the scoreboard more than three minutes into the quarter on a Garrett Via layup.

The closest the Mountaineers would get to the Knights as the Knights was two points at 9-7.

The turning point in the game came in the second quarter as the Knights outscored the Mountaineers by 16 points. The Mountaineers were held to 2-for-15 shooting in the quarter.

In the second half, the Knights opened the third quarter on a 19-0 run before Xzavier Hayslett scored with one minute left in the quarter to stop the run.

The Mountaineers were on the road last night at Radford and will host them tonight at 7:00 p.m.
