Mrs. Phoebe Myletta Norris Fitzpatrick quietly passed into eternal rest on March 13, 2015 at the Brian Center in Low Moor – a chapter completed, a page turned, a life well lived, a rest well earned.
She was born March 14, 1913 in Glasgow, Virginia to the late Hillard and Jeanette Strowbridge Norris and the sole remaining survivor of twelve children.

She was joined in holy matrimony to the late James Earl Fitzpatrick, Sr. (whom she grew up with).  To this union five children were born.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.  Through the years she enjoyed traveling to visit her family and having her grandchildren spend part of their summer vacation with her.
Mrs. Fitzpatrick graduated Watson High School in 1933 and attended college for a short time in West Virginia.  She accepted Christ at an early age and was very active as a member of the First Baptist Church in Covington.  She served as the president of Circle No. 3, President and Secretary of the Usher Board, faithful member of bible study and a devotions leader for prayer services on Wednesdays.  She served dutifully and as a delegate for the Leadership Training Sessions and later became a member of the Concerned Christian Baptist Church in Covington.
In the community she was a Girl Scout Troop Leader, member of the NAACP, AARP, and the Senior Citizens Club where she served as president.  Her joy was in doing volunteer work and helping others.
Phoebe was preceded in death by her husband Earl in 2004, her son Guy Cecil whom we all called “Pete” in 1967, her parents and siblings (John, Cecil, Matthew, Katie, Isabelle, Mildred, Montana, Margie, Barbara, Rosetta, and Jeanette.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory four children:  James E. Fitzpatrick, Jr. (Helen), Columbia, MD; Shirley F. Leary (James E.), Richmond, VA; Rosalind F. Dorcus (Nathaniel), Waynesboro, VA; Ralph O. Fitzpatick (Marie), Covington, VA; a special daughter in-law, Minnie F. Johnson, Ypsilanti, MI; 11 grandchildren, Tamar L. Briley, Inga L. Dorcus, Kevin Fitzpatrick (Julie), Sonya Tazwell (James), Ian Fitzparick (Tanya), Tracy P. Leary, Teresa L. Jenkins, Nathaniel Dorcus, Natasha Dorcus, Sheryl Fitzpatrick, Ava Fitzpatrick, Adria Woods; 14 great grandchildren, and several distant relatives and a host of friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 1PM at Concerned Christian Church with the Rev. William O. Hickman III officiating.
The family will receive their friends from noon until service time at the church.
