CLIFTON FORGE — Chad Wickline, a 17-year veteran of the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office, has been appointed police chief for the town of Clifton Forge.
Wickline, 35, will begin his new duties, effective Feb. 18.
“I?am very excited about the opportunity to work with the police department and the citizens of Clifton Forge,”?Wickline said. “I?am looking forward to getting to know the community leaders in Clifton Forge, as well as the community.”
Clifton Forge Mayor Jeff Irvine said he was looking forward to working with Wickline.
“Chad is a good guy. I?think he will do a fine job for us as police chief,”?Irvine said. “He’s a young guy, but he’s got 17 years of experience. I?am glad he got the job, and I wish him the best of luck.”
An Alleghany Highlands native and graduate of Alleghany High School, Wickline has extensive experience in all aspects of law enforcement, including investigations, security, law enforcement training and K-9.
He currently serves as a patrol sergeant and ERT assistant commander for the sheriff’s office.
“I am excited for him,”?Alleghany County Sheriff Kevin Hall said. “I?am very proud of Chad for being selected as the police chief of Clifton Forge.
“I?have watched him grow as a young officer with our agency,”?Hall added. “It’s going to be a loss for us. He did a lot of great things for us.”
Wickline will fill the position vacated with the retirement of Barry Balser on March 1.
Balser served 26 years as chief of the Clifton Forge Police Department.
