RIDGEWAY, Va. (VR) — Lydia Herstine struck out 12, allowed just one run, and went 2-for-3 with a double and RBI to lead Alleghany’s JV girls past Magna Vista 12-1.

Herstine faced 26 batters, recording strikeouts in every inning but one. She struck out the side in the first and second, added two in the third, one in the fourth, three in the fifth, and two more in the sixth. She allowed just one hit through the first five innings and finished with minimal contact against her.

At the plate, Alleghany totaled 8 hits and drew multiple walks while taking advantage of defensive miscues.

Maddie Harmon led the offense, going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Paelynn Osborne finished 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Her sixth-inning double drove in a run and set up another.

Herstine added a double and an RBI, scoring multiple times. Adalee Harris went 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Sarah Altizer added a 1-for-2 line with an RBI and a run scored.

Chessie Wolfe and J. Rogers each recorded a hit, with Wolfe driving in a run and Rogers reaching base twice. Kylee Armentrout worked a walk and scored during the fifth-inning surge.

Alleghany scored three runs in the second, three more in the third, added one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and closed with three in the sixth.

The Cougars finished with 12 runs on 8 hits, while Magna Vista managed one run on limited hits and struck out 12 times.
