Alleghany County Commonwealth’s Attorney Ed Stein is a candidate for a judgeship in the 25th Judicial Circuit.
Stein was interviewed last week by the Senate Courts of Justice Committee and the House Courts of Justice Committee.
The General Assembly could approve Stein’s appointment by the end of this week.
The 25th Judicial District covers an area that runs from Craig County north to Augusta County, and Alleghany County east to Rockbridge County.
Stein and Paul Dryer of Waynesboro and Humes “Tripp” Franklin of Staunton interviewed last week for two circuit court openings in the judicial circuit.
Stein has served as commonwealth’s attorney for Alleghany County and Covington for several years. He holds a law degree from Washington &?Lee University in Lexington and an undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
If Stein receives the circuit court appointment, his assistant commonwealth’s attorney, Jared Jenkins, plans to run for commonwealth’s attorney in November.
Jenkins, who resides in Clifton Forge, has served as assistant commonwealth’s attorney since December 2014. He also serves as town attorney for Iron Gate.
Jenkins ran for the Clifton Forge West District seat on the Alleghany County Board of Supervisors in November 2017. He lost the election to incumbent Richard Shull.
