NEW ORLEANS – The James Madison tandem of freshman Brooklyn Hoffmann and senior Sophie Williams were voted Sun Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week in a league vote by the head coaches.
The JMU duo earned the accolade after a solid 2-0 weekend in doubles, in which they defeated the top doubles teams from both Kentucky and #7 Duke.
The two opened the weekend with 6-2 victory over Kentucky’s Marina Fuduric and Julia Zhu, helping the Dukes clinch the doubles point. The tandem turned in their best win of the year against Duke, as they beat Clare An and Liv Hovde, 6-3. Paired with other Duke teammates, An ranks #32 nationally in doubles while Hovde has a pair of rankings at #14 and #22.
This is the first time JMU has ever won Sun Belt Doubles Team of the Week, as it is a new weekly honor this year.
JMU is off this weekend and returns to the court on Friday, Feb. 13 when it hosts Howard in a 10 a.m. bout in the team’s home opener.
