COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Last week’s storm is still having ripple effects across the region, with no school and, as a result, no sports. There was a brief glimmer of hope that competition might return over the weekend, but once again, weather stepped in and wiped out plans.
The last time Alleghany’s basketball teams took the floor was January 20. Indoor track last competed on January 10. Wrestling last saw action on January 21.
It has been a long, quiet stretch for winter athletes and fans.
This week’s schedule shows promise, and the hope is that teams can finally get back to work. If you’re like me, cabin fever has set in, the TV reruns are getting old, and live sports can’t return soon enough.
Punxsutawney Phil made his annual appearance Monday, looks like we are in for six more weeks of winter.
According to the athletic calendar, spring sports are roughly a month away.
Let’s get some games in.
