COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – The Virginian Review reached out to Covington Police Chief Chris Smith regarding preparations for the upcoming winter storm. The Covington Division of Police has taken necessary measures to respond to calls across all Public Safety divisions, according to Smith.
He said the only additional step taken so far is the designation of a warming center at City Hall. The center is not currently staffed, but will open automatically if power outages occur anywhere in the city.
Residents who lose power and need a place to stay may request access to the warming center by contacting the Emergency Communications Center at the non-emergency number, (540) 965-6333. If needed, Public Safety personnel will provide transportation from residences.
The service is available only to city and county residents who live within Covington Fire and EMS first-due response areas.
Smith said public safety officials will continue to monitor the storm and respond as conditions develop.
