(VR) – On Sunday morning, December 7, 1941, the American Army and Navy base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, was attacked by the Imperial Japanese Navy. The attack came as a surprise to the American Army and Navy and lead to great losses of life and equipment. More than 2000 American citizens were killed and more than 1000 were injured.
National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, held annually on December 7, commemorates the attack on Pearl Harbor, in Hawaii, during World War II. Many American service men and women lost their lives or were injured on this day. National Pearl Habor Remembrance Day is also referred to as Pearl Habor Remembrance Day or Pearl Harbor Day.
SOME GAVE ALL was an album which had its debut in 1992 by Billy Ray Cyrus. It became the best-selling album in that year in the United States selling over 9 million copies in the first 12 months of release. Excerpt from that album:
Love your country and live with pride
And don’t forget those who died
America, can’t you see
All gave some and some gave all
Some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties, and recall
SOME GAVE ALL
Awards will be given to Covington Middle School students who won the Patriots Pen essay contest and high school students who participated in the Voice of Democracy contest. The theme for both contests this year was “How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?”.
Food will be served, and we will be drawing the raffle for “LaMoyne Star” flannel quilt. We will also be collecting toys for this year’s Christmas Mother Program. Come help us remember Pearl Harbor Day and the sacrifices made and celebrate the youth contest winners.
