LOW MOOR, Va. (VR) –  Alleghany standout Kiera Lowman has made her college decision. The two-time cross-country state champion announced on Instagram that she will continue her running career at the University of Richmond.

Lowman has already made a name for herself in the Shenandoah District. Last fall, when Alleghany competed in the district meet to qualify for regionals, she won the race and set the course record at Wilson Memorial with a time of 19:03.

She carried that momentum into this year’s preseason relay at Wilson, running an 11:41 two-mile leg — the fastest girls time of the day and 30 seconds clear of second place.

Lowman’s résumé also includes two state titles in cross-country, a state runner-up finish, and multiple 3,200-meter championships on the track. She owns personal bests of 11:20 in the 3,200 and 5:18 in the 1,600.

She will run both cross-country and track next year for the Spiders, though she has not yet decided which track events she will focus on.
