BREAKING NEWS: Alleghany Regional Jail Reports Inmate, Kevin Joyce Died Today

COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office and Regional Jail has confirmed the death of inmate Kevin Lee Joyce. -Around 4:48 a.m. Mr. Joyce went unresponsive while talking to deputies and medical staff early on the morning of August 21, 2025. life-saving measures were immediately started and emergency medical services were notified. Mr. Joyce was later pronounced deceased at 5:26 a.m.

Joyce’s body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

The Virginia State Police is leading the investigation, which is in accordance with Department policy in such cases. At this time, there is no suspicion of foul play, and preliminary findings indicate the death was the result of natural causes.

Mr. Joyce was being held without bond and was awaiting sentencing on five counts of using a computer to propose sex to a minor under the age of 15.

The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office and Regional Jail extends its condolences to the family of Mr. Joyce.

No further details will be released while the investigation continues.
