LOW MOOR, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany Highlands School Board honored a young hero on Monday, Aug. 18.  Mountain View Elementary School third grader Emmalyn Prior, 8, was recognized for helping an elderly woman who fell behind her garage on June 15. Emmalyn ran to get her mother, ensuring the woman received timely help. She was honored by the Clifton Forge Town Council on Aug. 12 and presented with a certificate of accommodation by the Alleghany Highlands School Board on Aug. 18, with her stepfather, Jared Hayslett, and mother, Cassie Hayslett, in attendance. Mountain View Principal Mallory Thompson praised Emmalyn’s quick thinking, kindness, and academic achievements. Pictured behind Emmalyn are her mother, stepfather, and Principal Thompson.
