Built in Roanoke in 1950, the Class J No. 611 remains a proud symbol of our railroad legacy. In celebration of its 75th anniversary, I had the privilege of presenting a Congressional Record plaque to Mendy Flynn at the Virginia Museum of Transportation.

It was great to be back home in the Shenandoah Valley last week, where I had the opportunity to connect with folks from across the Sixth District and hear more about the important work being done in our communities. Last week, we took a meaningful step toward making energy more affordable for hard-working Americans. The One Big Beautiful Bill put an end to costly taxpayer-funded subsidies for unreliable energy sources that have driven up costs and weakened our energy independence. Additionally, my office remains committed to serving constituents. In a recent case, our team was able to help expedite a passport for a constituent ahead of an international trip. As Congress returns to session next week, I’ll remain focused on advancing policies that strengthen our communities, support our families, and move our Nation forward.

Restoring American Energy Independence

For too long, Washington has forced hardworking taxpayers to foot the bill for “green” energy schemes that raise utility costs, weaken our electric grid, and increase our dependence on foreign supply chains. Meanwhile, Democrats have poured billions into unreliable energy sources like wind and solar, while pushing aside affordable and dependable American energy.

These taxpayer-funded subsidies are not just wasteful. They also jeopardize our energy security and threaten the beauty of our natural landscape with sprawling industrial wind and solar farms. Many of the materials used in these projects are sourced from countries that do not share our values or interests. It was time to change to a new course. Through the One Big Beautiful Bill, we are taking meaningful steps to end costly tax credits that prop up unreliable energy. By eliminating the Clean Electricity Production and Investment Tax Credits, we are cutting government waste, limiting federal overreach, and putting American energy back at the forefront.

Our goal is clear. We are working to support the development of reliable, affordable, and domestic energy that lowers costs, protects our national security, and ensures families can keep the lights on. That is how we restore energy independence and secure a stronger future for the next generation.

Putting American Farmers First

American farmers work day and night to feed our nation and keep our shelves stocked. They form the backbone of our economy and our way of life. For too long, they were ignored by an administration that prioritized climate agendas and foreign interests over our own. That’s changing under President Trump.

The Trump administration is restoring commonsense policies that put American farmers first. Secretary Rollins and the USDA are taking real action to ensure our producers get the support they’ve long been denied. Last week’s rollout of the Supplemental Disaster Relief Program is a critical first step. This targeted relief will help farmers recover from devastating crop losses caused by natural disasters. It’s a welcome change from years of red tape and neglect. But there’s still more work to do. We must ban the purchase of American farmland by Chinese nationals and other foreign adversaries. No nation that wishes us harm should be allowed to own a single acre of U.S. soil.

President Trump and Secretary Rollins understand this threat, and they’re committed to defending our food supply and those who grow it. American agriculture is in good hands again.

Casework Highlight

A constituent from Frederick County contacted our office on May 16th regarding an urgent passport issue. The traveler had discovered on May 10th that their passport had expired, just days before a scheduled international trip. An expedited application was submitted immediately, but the process was delayed due to a problem with the passport photo.

The issue was not brought to the traveler’s attention until May 16th and they were unable to get timely guidance on a solution. With no appointments available locally, our office stepped in to secure an in-person appointment for May 19th.

Thanks to the efforts of my casework staff in my Winchester District Office, a new passport was issued that same day, allowing the traveler to move forward with their trip and reunite with loved ones after nearly a decade apart. If you ever need help with a federal agency please don’t hesitate to contact a district office nearest to you.

Fall Internship Applications Open

Congressman Ben Cline (VA-06) is currently accepting applications for Fall internship opportunities in his Washington, D.C. office. This position offers a unique perspective of the day-to-day operations of the United States Congress.

Interns will work with the Congressman’s staff in the preparation of policy briefs and gain extensive knowledge of the federal legislative process. Additionally, interns will engage with and provide various services to constituents. Congressman Cline is looking for talented and driven applicants who will be available from early September to Mid-December. The deadline for application submissions is July 29th, 2025.

For more information, please contact Lindsey Zarriello by email at Lindsey.Zarriello@mail.house.gov

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your Congressman. If my office can ever be of assistance, please contact my Washington office at (202) 225-5431.
