This week, House Republicans advanced key reforms to restore fiscal discipline, support small businesses, protect families, and uphold the rule of law. From a $9.4 billion rescissions package to commonsense bills that safeguard taxpayer dollars and strengthen Main Street, we’re making real progress on behalf of Sixth District taxpayers. I also continued efforts to improve allergen transparency in medicine, backed legislation to help keep our communities safe, and joined Virginians in honoring the 80th anniversary of D-Day, a solemn reminder of the price of freedom. As always, it was great to meet with folks across the Sixth District. I’ll keep fighting for the conservative values we share and real solutions to get Washington back on track.
Delivering on the Promise to Cut Wasteful Spending
Last week, the House received a much-needed rescissions package from the White House. This legislation would cut $9.4 billion in federal spending appropriated last year. It is a critical step toward restoring fiscal responsibility and getting our government back on track.
As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I have worked to advance reforms that rein in spending and bring much-needed accountability to Washington. For too long, unelected bureaucrats have wasted taxpayer dollars with little oversight. That is why I am fighting to codify the mission of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and deliver on the president’s mandate to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse.
This rescissions package is a commonsense effort to correct course and protect the hard-earned money of the American people. As it moves to the House floor for a vote next week, I will be working to ensure its swift passage. Virginians deserve a government that respects their money and lives within its means. I remain committed to delivering real savings and restoring fiscal discipline on behalf of families across the Sixth District.
Strengthening Main Street
Small businesses are the backbone of our economy in the Sixth District. That’s why I’m pleased the House voted to approve three important Small Business Administration reforms that build on Administrator Kelly Loeffler’s work at SBA and reverse the harm done under the Biden–Harris Administration. Together, these bills cut fraud, restore accountability, and make sure SBA resources reach hardworking American entrepreneurs, not fraudsters or illegal immigrants.
The three bills are:
- H.R. 2966 – American Entrepreneurs First Act
Requires proof of citizenship and age verification for all SBA loan applicants. This commonsense safeguard stops waste, fraud, and abuse so taxpayer dollars only support American-owned businesses. - H.R. 2931 – Save SBA from Sanctuary Cities Act
Relocates SBA offices out of sanctuary jurisdictions that refuse to enforce immigration law. Moving these offices protects SBA employees, keeps resources focused on law-abiding communities, and holds sanctuary cities accountable. - H.R. 2987 – CEASE Act
Caps the number of SBA-licensed Small Business Lending Companies at 16, restoring proper oversight of the 7(a) loan program. This preserves the integrity of SBA lending and prevents future administrations from overextending the agency’s capacity.
I proudly voted yes on each of these measures to protect our small business owners, defend taxpayer dollars, and help make Main Street stronger.
Protecting Families Through Allergen Transparency in Medicine
More than 100 million Americans live with serious food allergies, intolerances, or Celiac disease. Yet too many medications still fail to clearly disclose potentially dangerous allergens.
That is why I was proud to co-lead the bipartisan Allergen Disclosure in Medicine Act. This bill would require clear labeling of the top nine allergens and gluten in prescription and over-the-counter medications, giving families the information they need to make safe decisions.
Every American deserves to know exactly what is in their medicine. This commonsense legislation is a critical step to prevent future tragedies and protect those with life-threatening allergies. Read the full bill here.
Virginia Leads on Public Safety Through 287(g) Program
Keeping our communities safe starts with enforcing the law. That is why I have been a strong supporter of the 287(g) program, which empowers local law enforcement to partner with ICE in identifying and removing illegal immigrants who pose a threat to public safety.
In Congress, I proudly backed the 287(g) Program Protection Act to preserve and strengthen this commonsense initiative. By giving local officers the tools to serve as a force multiplier for federal immigration enforcement, we are ensuring that dangerous individuals are held accountable and removed from our streets.
Illegal immigration continues to strain public services and undermine the legal process that millions have followed. I am proud that Virginia ranks among the top five states with the most 287(g) agreements. This kind of interagency cooperation is essential to protecting our communities and upholding the rule of law. House Republicans will keep fighting for policies that prioritize law-abiding citizens, restore order, and secure our neighborhoods.
Remembering D-Day
In commemoration of D-Day, we pay tribute to the nearly 160,000 valiant Allied troops who stormed the beaches of Normandy, embarking on a monumental fight for freedom over evil. We will never forget their courage and unwavering commitment to save the free world. May we always honor them and America’s Greatest Generation for their sacrifices.
