Dear Editor, and Clubs, Organizations, Businesses, Churches and Families of the Alleghany Highlands:

The Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism and the Covington Woman’s Club appreciate your support and participation in April as cleanup month. The Chamber gave out approximately 83 bags. The trash grabbers were checked out by 48 different organizations/individuals.

Approximately 11 different organizations/individuals picked up bags at the Chamber office. Additionally, several organizations completed clean-ups and used their own supplies. Groups who picked up trash include the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office, Alleghany Outdoors, Clifton Forge Main Street, the Falling Springs Ruritan Club, Boys Home, Mountain Gateway Community College, Alleghany High School, a youth bible study group, Ingevity, and the Covington Woman’s Club.

If your group picked up trash and is not included in this list, please contact the chamber office at 540-962-2178 to be added to the list. Please let us know the number of people who participated and the approximate time spent cleaning up.

Of the groups reporting, over 125 people participated for an estimated 190 hours. Thank you for your time and hard work.

As always, we encourage you to please dispose of trash in the proper containers. Please do not throw trash on the road sides, as litter can enter our waterways and harm our environment. Let’s all work together to keep our community, clean and pristine!  It would be great to have no need for clean-up month!

Thank you,

Alleghany Highlands Community Clean-up Team
