ROANOKE, Va. (VR) – Despite the scoreline, the Cougars showed tremendous heart and resilience. Goalkeepers Sam Nickell and Lucas Tidd-Whiting were standouts for Covington, with Nickell making eight saves in the first half and Tidd-Whiting adding seven more saves after the break. Their efforts helped keep Covington in the fight against a relentless Fishwick attack.
John P. Fishwick controlled possession for most of the match, but Covington battled defensively and never gave up. Although offensive opportunities were limited, the Cougars’ grit and teamwork were evident throughout.
This marked the final game of the season for Covington, and head coach Martha Lehman expressed deep pride in her team’s progress. She noted that every player had shown great improvement over the course of the season, both in skill and in confidence on the field.
“I’m so proud of this group,” said Coach Lehman” They’ve worked incredibly hard, and the growth they’ve shown from the first game to now has been amazing. They played with heart all season.”
The Cougars close out their year with valuable experience and a strong foundation to build on for the future.
