LOW MOOR, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany JV Cougars didn’t just win on Monday night—they put on a show, and Staunton High School was stuck watching from the front row. Final score? 18-0. Yeah, you read that right. This one was over before Staunton even knew what hit ‘em.
The Cougars came out hot in the first inning, dropping a 10-run bomb that basically ended the game before it even got going. Walks, doubles, clutch hits—you name it, they did it. Ally Cottrell and Brooklyn Taylor got the party started with back-to-back walks that brought in runs. Ava Howard dropped a double to bring in two, Analiese Webb took a free pass for an RBI, and then Paelyn Osborne cleared the bases with a three-run single that had the dugout going wild. Add in more hits from Cottrell and Abby Patterson, and yeah—it was ugly.
And just when Staunton probably thought it couldn’t get worse… it did.
The second inning? More of the same. Singles, walks, and smart base running turned into more runs. Webb, Harmon, Uzzell—they all got in on the action. Then came the third, and Alleghany just kept piling on. Analiese Webb, Paelynn Osborne, Madison Harmon, and Lydia Herstine each added to the scoreboard like it was a team-wide group project.
Pitching? Straight dominant. Brooklyn Taylor was throwing fire—three innings, zero hits, zero runs, and seven strikeouts. That’s called shutting it all the way down. Lydia Herstine came in to close and kept the no-hit party going with two more perfect innings and six Ks. Lights. Out.
By the end, Alleghany racked up 11 hits and 22 walks. Yeah, twenty-two. Like a whole Taylor Swift album worth of free bases. Osborne and Webb each drove in three runs like it was nothing, Patterson went 2-for-2 like a pro, and the Cougars’ defense? Flawless. Not a single error. Osborne handled 14 chances in the field like a vacuum cleaner with cleats. This wasn’t just a win. It was a flex. The Cougars pulled up, ran the show, and made sure everyone knew whose house it was. The lady Cougars will be back in action on Friday at home when they host Floyd County.
