BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (VR) – The CMS girls soccer team put up a valiant effort on Monday night, falling 2-1 to Breckinridge in a hard-fought contest. Despite the defeat, the team showcased impressive individual performances and determination on the field. Ashtyn Crawford, a standout player in the match, scored the lone goal for CMS. The 6th grader, who has experience playing travel soccer and rec league, made an explosive run down the field on a breakaway. With poise and precision, Crawford launched a powerful shot from outside the 6-yard box, sending the ball past the goalkeeper and into the net for the team’s only goal.
In goal, Ellie Flenner also stood out. A 6th grader who has previously played in rec league, Flenner was a rock in the net, making over 10 crucial saves to keep CMS in the game. Her quick reflexes and determination were on full display, as she consistently turned away shots from the opposing team.
While the final score showed a 2-1 loss, CMS’s performance on the field highlighted their resilience and teamwork. With players like Crawford and Flenner stepping up and showing their potential, there is plenty of promise for the rest of the season.
