COVINGTON Va, (VR) – The Covington Middle School softball team kicked off their season with a heart-pounding comeback victory against Woodrow Wilson on Thursday evening. The home crowd was treated to an edge-of-your-seat performance as the Lady Cougars clawed their way back from a 4-0 deficit to clinch an impressive 8-4 win.
The game started with Woodrow Wilson dominating the field, but Covington refused to go down without a fight. As the final three innings approached, the Lady Cougars made crucial adjustments that turned the tide of the game. Their aggressive base running strategy and timely hitting proved to be the perfect formula for success.
The offensive onslaught was led by Wolfe and Altizer, who each contributed two hits to the team’s cause. Rogers, Craft, Bazzera, Herstine, and Vess also chipped in with one hit apiece, showcasing the depth and talent of the Covington lineup. Herstine pitched 14 strikes, and only gave up only three hits, Herstine undoubtedly dominated the mound.
Head Coach Amy Bartley Simmons couldn’t contain her excitement after the game. “I’m very proud of the girls this evening, after a long week of three back-to-back games, they showed incredible resilience and teamwork to pull off this comeback.”
