Mark Allen Weiss
Beloved coach, Mark Allen Weiss, age 74, of 53 Walnut Drive, Warm Springs, Virginia died from complications of the flu on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital – Forest in Richmond, Virginia.
Mark was born December 20, 1950, in Richmond, Virginia to the late David and Shirley Krakov Weiss. He was a 1973 graduate of Virginia Military Institute and was a member of the Keydet Club. He devoted his life to coaching football and track and field. He coached in Covington for many years and in Bath County and South Carolina as well. He coached ten state champions in track and field. Mark was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins and was of the Jewish faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Weiss and a brother-in-law, Michael Tennant.
Mark leaves behind his wife, Linda Tennant Weiss of Warm Springs; a step-daughter, April Amos (Ralph Richards) of Lindside, West Virginia; a brother, Harold Weiss (Barrie) of Boynton Beach, FL; a brother-in-law, James “Jimbo” Tennant and (Clara) of Millboro; two nieces, Becky Howell (Kendall), Melisa Via (Chucky) and six nephews, Bobby Tennant (Heather), Bryan Tennant (Wendy), Andy Weiss, Eric Weiss, Aaron Weiss (Amanda), and Chris Martin (Danielle); and his many VMI brothers.
A time of visitation was held on Friday, February 28, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM in Curfman Hall, Covington.
