COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – During the past 12 months inmates from the Alleghany Regional Jail have been offered a chance to reform their ways when it comes to the use of drugs or other criminal behavior. The chance that I am speaking of is the ability to attend Celebrate Recovery classes offered inside the jail.
The class is offered once per week and is strictly on a voluntary basis. The inmates are first given a brief description of the class and then they are asked to share their story with the group.
From there they are assigned homework, which they complete before the following week. This course is based upon the 12-step program that is offered by Alcoholics Anonymous.
The inmates not only completed the course, but they excelled in the completion of it. They not only shared their stories, but also helped each other with assignments, but also created prayer groups inside their assigned pods.
For their commitment, a celebration was held today, and the inmates were allowed to have Pizza, Cake and Soda. Certificates were presented to each inmate. No time for good behavior was offered as a result of this class.
Sheriff Moore stated: I am very happy for this day, each of you should understand that this can be the start of a new you. No matter if you have 20 years left to pull or 20 days, the choice is yours.
Moore further stated that he would like to thank his staff and members of Good News Church and Living Stones Ministries for making this program such a success.
