HOT SPRINGS, Va. (VR) – In January, Jeff Lingerfelt, CEO of Bath Community Hospital (BCH), announced his intention to retire later this year. We extend our heartfelt appreciation for Jeff’s outstanding leadership over the past 4½ years.

Joining our team during the pandemic, Jeff cultivated a leadership team that has focused on quality of care and growth. Under his guidance, BCH earned national recognition, including being named one of the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals among 1,358 nationwide, an esteemed acknowledgment from The Chartis Center of Rural Health. Furthermore, our Emergency Department received the Press Ganey Human Experience Guardian of Excellence Award placing us in the Top 5% of healthcare providers across the country.

While recognition is encouraging to our wonderful BCH staff and employees, we also are encouraged by the growth we have experienced during Jeff’s tenure. Specifically, surgical procedures have increased by 55%, behavioral health services by 66%, and overall clinic volume by 40%. These accomplishments align with our mission and privilege of serving the residents and visitors of Bath County and the surrounding areas.

We are truly grateful for Jeff’s invaluable contributions to BCH, which have established us as a leader in the healthcare community. We wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.

Considering this transition, we have engaged a search firm and will promptly begin the recruitment process for his successor.

Traywick Duffie

Chairman, Bath Community Hospital

Board of Directors
