CLIFTON FORGE, Va. (VR) – Martin Luther King Day Annual Walk of Legacy will be held Sunday, January 19 at 3:00. To participate in the walk please meet at the Clifton Forge Courthouse at 2:45 and walk to the Historic Masonic Theatre to begin program at 3:00 pm. Event is sponsored by CAYA Community Outreach and HOPE, Inc. (Helping Other People Excel, Inc)
Guest keynote Speaker will be Mr. Reginald Nash.
Reginald (Reggie) Nash has deep knowledge of and professional experience within education policy, advocacy, coalition strategy, and stakeholder engagement at the local, state, and national levels. Currently, he serves as a Senior Policy Advisor at Washington, D.C.-based EducationCounsel, a mission-based consulting services firm that utilizes deep policy, advocacy, law, and strategy to advance equity and improve student outcomes from early childhood to higher education.
He previously served at The Education Trust (EdTrust) in its national office and as an early team member in establishing their Nashville-based Tennessee office. Across multiple leadership roles at EdTrust, Reggie helped oversee legislative and government affairs strategy, led coalition and strategic social justice and civil rights partner engagement in multiple states, and played a key role in securing policy wins and developing issue campaigns centered on protecting and strengthening public education, with an emphasis on systems change to better serve students from low-income families, students of color, and those from other marginalized communities. He has also served as a policy professional and advisor for senior leadership in the U.S. Congress, TN State Board of Education, and the Shelby County (Memphis) Board of Commissioners, as a kindergarten teacher in Memphis with Teach For America and has participated in a host of leadership development and policy fellowship programs across the country.
Cherishing his deep roots as a Black youth raised in the tight-knit, hardworking community of Clifton Forge in Virginia’s rural southwestern highlands, Mr. Nash is a graduate of Alleghany High School and holds a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Houston and a Master of Public Policy degree from Vanderbilt University, where he was a Peabody Distinguished Scholar.
