STUARTS DRAFT – Playing for the first time in nearly two weeks Alleghany fell on the road on Monday in a non-district girls basketball game 39-28 to Stuarts Draft.
Ava Flippin scored a game-high 14 points to lead the SD Cougars to their eighth win of the season as they improved to 8-1 overall.
The turning point of the game came in the third quarter where Stuarts Draft outscored Alleghany 17-2 to take a 30-16 lead into the final quarter. Flippin scored 10 of her 14 in the period to lead the SD Cougars.
Bryce Leitch led Alleghany in scoring with a team-high 13 points. Leitch scored 12 of the points in the first half. Kelsey Nicely was second on the team in scoring with six points and seven rebounds, while also converting all four of her free throw attempts. Ty’Aieja Smith led the team with eight rebounds.
Alleghany shot 2-12 from three-point range.
The loss for the AHS Cougars dropped the team to 5-3 overall and was their second loss in their last three games. The SD Cougars swept their regular season series with AHS. SDHS defeated AHS 42-38 Low Moor on December 10th.
With school canceled on Monday, Alleghany’s home contest against Carroll County was postponed. The Cougars will next play on Wednesday at James River.
