COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – A reception was held on December 18th by VFW Post 1033 Auxiliary to award certificates to two youth and several auxiliary members for a job “well done” Jonathan and Kaleb Hylton received the Youth Activities Patriotic Youth Award which reads “Your actions and deeds are appreciated and
commended by the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Auxiliary”. They exemplify what this award stands for. During the Wall That Heals visit they made patriotic pens for our Vietnam veterans and after our Veterans Day ceremony, they gave gift bags to all veterans.
Jonathan and Kaleb made over 300 Christmas cards and spent part of Christmas Eve distributing to the local nursing homes They are a part of the A-1 Dance Studio team that regularly goes to these nursing homes to dance for the patients. They were part of a “missing child” drill at Lewis Gale
Alleghany bringing joy and smiles to those around them. Thank you, Jonathan and Kaleb, for all you do.
Other awards presented during the evening were given to recognize some outstanding members who gave above and beyond to ensure our veterans are taken care of. Martha Terry, 34 year member, is the Treasurer and chairman of our Veterans Support Committee. Phyllis Givens, 25 year member is
Conductress and chairman of the Buddy Poppy Committee. Both of these seasoned members are involved in our Youth Activity and Scholarship programs and are a tremendous asset to the group. We value their dedication and, most of all, their knowledge.
Four of the newer auxiliary members were awarded certificates for their willingness to always volunteer and get things done: Patty McAnnally, Chaplain, Loretta Lambert, Hospital Chairman, Linda Morrison, Secretary and Lora Dietrich. We are proud to say Lora is also a veteran.
Thank you all for helping make VFW Post 1033 the success we are today. Your love of the chapter shows in all you do. We are always looking for new members to be a part of the team.
