Verlan Amos Simmons
Verlan Amos Simmons, 74, of Covington, died Friday, December 20, 2024, at his residence, surrounded by his family.
He was born May 13, 1950, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Roy A. and Dollie Humphries Simmons.
Mr. Simmons was a bus driver with the former Alleghany County Public Schools for over 30 years. His hobbies and interests were many, and his family lovingly considered him a “Jack of All Trades”. He attended Highland Chapel Christian Church.
Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Ruby Wolfe Simmons; two sons, Doug Simmons and his wife, Anita and Chuck Simmons and his wife, Christie, all of Covington; four grandchildren, Alisha (Danny) Little, D.J. (Mykala) Simmons, Andy (Helen) Simmons, and Tyler (Jordan) Simmons; nine great-grandchildren, and one brother, Sonny Simmons, of Covington.
A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating.
Interment will be made in Bowyer Cemetery.
The family will receive their friends on Sunday, December 22, 2024, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM at Arritt Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Dakota Simmons, Andy Simmons, Tyler Simmons, Danny Little, Waylon Mayo, and R.C. Stone.
Honorary pallbearers are Douglas Simmons, Charles Simmons, David Bowers, Robbie Jack, Jackie Stone, Austin Jack, and Ronnie Angle.
