COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office has received several reports this week from individuals contacted on their phone from a number that comes up as Unknown Caller. This person states to the individual that they are a deputy with this department and inform them they have a warrant out for their arrest because they were summons for jury duty and the failed to appear. To rescind the arrest warrant, the individual needed to go to Love’s Truck Stop and send $500 to an electronic code number. Once the $500 is paid, they were instructed to take their receipt to the Sheriff’s Office to confirm payment was made.
THIS IS A SCAM.
This office does not and will never require a payment to be made to rescind an arrest warrant.
Please be aware and do not fall victim to these predators.
