James Hoover, Jr.
Mr. James Lawrence “Jimmy” Hoover, Jr. , age 75, of Covington, died Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany, Low Moor. He was the husband of Patricia Hoke Hoover and was about to celebrate their fifty-fifth anniversary.
Jimmy was born May 30, 1949 in Virginia, the son of the late James Lawrence Hoover and Katherine Loving Hoover and was the oldest of six siblings. Jimmy was a graduate of Covington High School. He served his country as a member of the United States Army. On July 10, 1978, Jimmy went to
work for MeadWestvaco where he was employed as an electrician until his retirement in July of 2011.
In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, playing golf, coaching baseball and spending time with family and his beloved dog, Max.
In addition to his wife, Patricia, Jimmy is survived by two sons, Greg William Hoover of Covington and James Phillip Hoover of Clifton Forge; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Nicole Hoover, Leslie Danielle Hoover and James Cole Hoover; and two brothers, Gary Hoover and wife, Judy of Covington and
Randy Hoover of Vinton.
Jimmy was preceded in death by two brothers, David Hoover and Ricky Hoover and an infant sister, Cynthia Hoover.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, December 8, 2024, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Pastor Dean Bowser officiating, assisted by Rev. Gary Marshall. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 12:30 P.M. until time of service at Loving Funeral Home.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Mountain Gateway Community College Educational Foundation at 1000 College Drive, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 to support the electrical program at the college.
