Alleghany Highlands Community Services (AHCS) is pleased to announce that it has received a generous donation from Peoples Bank as part of its annual Day of Giving campaign. This contribution will support AHCS’s Client Assistance Fund and other programs in need. The Client Assistance Fund provides essential aid to individuals in need, helping them overcome financial barriers and achieve long-term success.
AHCS is participating in the Day of Giving campaign alongside non-profit organizations across the country, raising funds to support its Client Assistance Fund. The fund is a critical resource for clients who may need assistance with items such as specialized glasses, mobility equipment, work-related skill-building classes, or essential clothing for employment opportunities.
“While we have made significant strides in expanding our services and resources, we continue to need support to advance our mission of helping individuals and families in our community,” said Ingrid Barber, Executive Director of AHCS. “The donation from Peoples Bank will allow us to continue to provide crucial assistance for those in need and help people achieve future success and sustainability.”
Before receiving assistance, applicants are required to have exhausted all other available resources. The Client Assistance Fund helps with a wide range of needs, including power loss situations, essential attire for job interviews or work, and specialized equipment for individuals with mobility challenges. All requests are reviewed by a committee, and individuals can receive up to $200 per year unless special circumstances apply.
Currently, the fund is running low, and AHCS urgently needs community support to ensure that these critical services can continue. With generous contributions from donors like Peoples Bank, AHCS can keep offering these opportunities that significantly impact the lives of individuals in need.
AHCS’s Client Assistance Fund is just one part of the organization’s broader commitment to improving the quality of life for individuals in the Alleghany Highlands. As one of Virginia’s forty Community Services Boards, AHCS has provided behavioral health and developmental disability services since 1983. AHCS’s mission is to create a community-based system of care that responds to individual needs while promoting sustainability and success.
“We are dedicated to improving the lives of people with behavioral health challenges, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders,” said Ingrid Barber. “We believe in preventing these challenges through early intervention and support, and we will continue to adapt and grow to meet the needs of our community.”
