LOW MOOR – While Alleghany’s tremendous football season came to an unfortunate end last Friday in the Class 3, Region C semifinals to Turner Ashby, there is much to look forward to as the program embarks on a new chapter.

The Cougars will have an extra week of practice before their 2025 football season kicks off next fall as the team will open their campaign on a bye week and will play 10 straight games following their opening week bye.

The reigning Three Rivers District Champion Cougars will be leaving the TRD and will be moving into the Shenandoah District.

Along with Alleghany, Rockbridge County will also be joining the Cougars in the district as the Wildcats are leaving the Valley District.

This will mark nine teams in the district as each school will play eight district games and two non-district games.

Alleghany’s non-district games include their season-opener at home on September 5th against Brookville. The following week the Cougars will conclude their non-district schedule with a showdown in West Virginia at Greenbrier East.

In the fourth week of the season, Alleghany will begin their new district schedule as they host Staunton.

One date to note is October 31st, Alleghany hosts Fort Defiance on Halloween.

While Brookville is a new opponent to the Cougars this season, so too will be several teams of their new district including Buffalo Gap, Riverheads, Staunton, and Stuarts Draft.

This past season Alleghany went 3-0 against Shenandoah District teams, 4-0 if you now include Rockbridge County. The Cougars defeated both Fort Defiance and Waynesboro on the road and knocked off Wilson Memorial in the regional quarterfinals.

Alleghany finished their 2024 season 11-1.
