At the October 19 Community Gathering, two homes were awarded the Blue Ribbon Recognition Award by Chuck Unroe, Clifton Forge Town Manager, and Mott Atherholt, representing Clifton Forge Main Street and Vision 2025 Corridor Curb Appeal.
The Blue Ribbon Recognition Award began in 2014 as a way to recognize significant exterior improvements of residences or business buildings by owners and/or renters in the Town of Clifton Forge. The recognition was awarded annually for several years by Clifton Forge Town Council. The
recognition, although extremely popular, stopped in 2019 prior to COVID, so the Community Gathering Planning Committee, along with Town of Clifton Forge, Clifton Forge Main Street and Corridor Curb Appeal recently partnered to reinstitute the awards and present them monthly at the Community
Gatherings.
The Blue Ribbon Recognition Award winners for October 19 include Carl (Shorty) Wolfe Jr., 704 Church Street and sisters, Iris Fletcher and Annette Baird, 608 Pine Street. Each winner received a Blue Ribbon Recognition Award sign for their window or yard and a gift certificate from Ace Hardware. Shorty Wolfe is considering making his newly renovated house into an Airbnb. Iris Fletcher and Annette Baird grew up in the 608 Pine Street home. Although they both moved to different locations, they restored their childhood home for their frequent visits to Clifton Forge.
Guidelines for receiving an award include showing visual exterior improvements by remodeling, re-roofing, re-siding, painting, landscaping or a combination of all. An application, which includes a before and after photo, must be submitted to compete for the award. Applications may be obtained and submitted to Town Hall and Clifton Forge Main Street offices or you may email info@forgevoices.org to receive the application by email. Applications may be submitted by the home/business owner or renter or anyone may nominate a business or residence for the award. As of June 2023, fifteen Blue Ribbon Recognition Awards have been presented.
