The Shadow has noticed a recent influx of social media posts regarding the electric bills of Alleghany locals. Given the wide range of complaints and bewilderment, I decided to dig deeper. Evidently, one needs only to sign into their Facebook or Twitter accounts, type the name of their electric company, and read the widespread grievances. It is the opinion of the Shadow that the most concerning protestations are these:
1) Many have raised concerns about the rising cost of electricity. While cost of living and inflation can play major roles in creating such an inrush, the Shadow is concerned over the overwhelming amount of posts addressing the issue.
2) The Shadow also noticed a Facebook post by a woman in Staunton who alleges her electric bill was nearly $60 merely 5 days into her billing cycle.
3) One person has stated that they receive a new bill every two weeks, while another has gone two months without seeing a bill at all. The latter seemed quite concerned, as he believes the bill to be accumulating somewhere in the digital world. Will he wake up one morning to a $500 bill to be paid next week?
4) A local Clifton Forge couple recently shared with the Shadow that they chose to opt out of the smart meter, with the electric company promising to send them a letter in that regard. However, they were installed with a smart meter two months ago and are yet to hear back or receive a letter.
The Shadow feels inclined to mention that all the aforementioned information is secondhand. Readers should also be advised that these are but a few of many. The Shadow also forewarns no proof has been seen; it has merely been read and heard from others. However, it raised concerns. The Shadow wants to remind locals to be aware of their energy bills. Look over it, ask questions, and make sure you are getting what you bargained for.
